Miley Cyrus’ brand new album, Endless Summer Vacation, debuts on the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 3, with first-week sales surpassing $100,000.

In its first week, the 13-track pop/dance-pop album sold over 119k album-equivalent units and 55k of which were pure album sales. This is nearly double the first week sales of Cyrus’ last album, Plastic Hearts (2020), which sold over 60k album-equivalent units.

Cyrus’ fans swarmed to social media to congratulate the singer/songwriter.

Upon its release, the album earned positive reviews- with many critics calling it her best body of work thus far. Rolling Stone’s critic, Brittany Spanos, called it her “sharpest, most independent album yet” and “a powerful artistic statement, focused and clear-eyed as Cyrus seems to have found herself in her thirties.” Clash music critic, Emily Swingle, wrote, “this is a release that aims for timelessness in its own right, allowing the true, unfiltered Miley Cyrus to step into the sunlight.”

The album’s success is no surprise, given its promotional material. It was preceded by the single “Flowers,” which came out earlier this January to massive critical and commercial success. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for weeks, becoming the entertainer’s second number-one hit since “Wrecking Ball” in 2013.

The song broke the Spotify record for becoming the fastest song in the platform’s history, reaching over 100 million streams. To further promote the album, the performer worked with Disney+ to release Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions) this past March 10, a musical documentary in which she discussed and performed some of the album’s songs. Many celebrated the special, citing it as her significant return to Disney since her portrayal of Hannah Montana in the mid-2000s to early-2010s. In a tweet, Disney+ even teased the special, with their caption stating, “Welcome home.”

Three days before the album’s release, the songstress teased her second single from the album, “River.” In a tweet, Cyrus shared various clips from the song’s music video. The caption read, “RIVER. MUSIC VIDEO. FRIDAY.”

Given the hype surrounding the album, we are thankful we have finally been able to listen to it. Cyrus is at the top of her game, and the album proves it. Fans can watch Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions) on Disney+. And, below, they can enjoy her latest music video for “River.”
