Interview with Melissa Carcache
Actress Melissa Carcache recently sat down with Glitter to discuss her role on Nickelodeon’s Every Witch Way, her favorite co-star to date, what it was like to host a show on the Royal Caribbean Cruise, her favorite hobbies, and her love for the Miami Heat!
GLITTER: Can you tell us when you first started acting?
MELISSA: I started acting when I was about five-years-old. I actually did my first play in kindergarten where I played a crow! My mom felt I was too young to start acting professionally so she made me wait until I was fourteen-years-old to start auditioning.
GLITTER: Who do you play on Nickelodeon’s Every Witch Way?
MELISSA: I play Lily. She’s a powerless witch and Emma’s witch guardian. She is also the school nurse, Jax’s guardian and a member of the witches’ council. A lot has happened in four seasons!
GLITTER: Who has been your favorite co-star to date?
MELISSA: The animals! We get to work with some pretty cool animals like monkeys, snakes, a porcupine and even a kangaroo! In the first season I had to overcome my fear of frogs. I had a scene where Lily is suspicious of the Principal and begins to inspect the frog aquarium in their office. I had to stick my hand in a tank full of jumping frogs and pick the biggest one to investigate. I was terrified! Luckily, my director was so patient he let me take the time I needed with the trainer to get used to holding him and I quickly overcame my fear of frogs!
GLITTER: Who would you love to guest star on a future episode?
MELISSA: Kermit, the frog. I love the Muppets! Now that I’ve overcome my fear of frogs, I wouldn’t be so scared to work with him!
GLITTER: Is it true that you also hosted a show on the Royal Caribbean Cruise?
MELISSA: I did! So many people say they have seen the show on the ships! I hosted an in-cabin shopping show called Buy Design, where we talk about different jewelry and watches guests can buy on their ports of call. I learned so much about watches, diamonds and different types of jewelry that I now have an enormous appreciation for all the work that goes into making such beautiful pieces.
GLITTER: What do you love to do in your spare time?
MELISSA: I honestly just love to be a total couch potato with my dog, Romeo, with a slice of pizza and catch up on my favorite shows! I also love to go to the beach. I am so lucky to live in Miami where the beaches are so close. I like to take advantage of that when I’m home and of course spend time with my large and loud Cuban family!
GLITTER: Do you have any favorite hobbies?
MELISSA: I really enjoy writing and taking ballet class. I started dancing when I was three-years-old and it quickly became a big passion of mine. I don’t have much time to go to class anymore but when I have a little off I make the time to go.
GLITTER: What is something fans may not know about you?
MELISSA: I’m really bad at spelling! I’m thankful I live in a generation where my iPhone corrects everything I write!
GLITTER: Is it true that you’re a fan of the Miami Heat?
MELISSA: I’m a HUGE Miami Heat fan! During the playoffs no one could talk to me because I would get so into the games! I would scream at the TV and my family and friends would make so much fun of me! I met Dwayne Wade with my sister last year at a charity event and he was so nice. We even took a picture holding up 305 with our hands. I was the three, Wade was the zero and my sister was the five. That was cool!
GLITTER: Do you have any charities that are near and dear to your heart?
MELISSA: I love working with Miami Children’s Hospital. They go far and beyond to help these children. I love to visit and donate my time to the hospital. I’ve met some pretty amazing kids with huge sprits. Their positivity and outlook on life really brings everything into perspective.
GLITTER: What is your definition of self-love?
MELISSA: To me, self-love is about putting yourself first. I feel that sometimes it’s hard to do. I’m always trying to take care of everyone around me; I often forget about myself. Eating healthy and exercising helps me feel better. It’s definitely one of the ways I show self-love. I also never compare myself to others, it’s very unhealthy. By trying to be someone that you’re not, you throw away your wonderful and unique qualities.
GLITTER: What is your favorite way to stay fit during the summer?
MELISSA: I love to run on the beach. It’s so peaceful and relaxing especially really early in the morning. I clear my head and get a great workout in. Then jump in the ocean to cool off!
GLITTER: Do you have any new projects coming up that you can tell us about?
MELISSA: Right now I’m finishing up season 4 of Every Witch Way and heading back to LA to start a really cool project that I can’t wait to share with everyone soon!
GLITTER: What would be your dream role in the future?
MELISSA: This is so hard to answer! Right now I would love to do a dramatic role in an indie film. I’ve been doing comedy for 4 years so I would like to try something new and challenge myself.
