5 Seconds of Summer’s “Street Art” Campaign

5 Seconds of Summer graffiti

This band employs “guerrilla”-art techniques, once proven to be an effective form of grassroots persuasion. What kind of revolution are they trying to incite? Rock groups in the past have postured themselves as provocateurs of riots, energizers of liberation. Maybe so, and “youth cultures” have romanticized street art for some time now. What’s the difference between this promotional campaign and the work of Banksy or Rammellzee? What do you think about the promotional campaign at all? Check out some examples of the work yourself here.
