Interview with Krista Marie Yu
Krista Marie Yu stars in ABC’s Dr. Ken, where she plays Ken Jeong’s (Dr. Ken) daughter, Molly. She will next be seen in the feature films, Love The Coopers, opposite Amanda Seyfried and 6 Miranda Drive with Kevin Bacon. Glitter recently sat down with Krista to find out what it’s like to be on Dr. Ken, who her idols are, the one motto she lives by, and where you can see her next! GLITTER: When did you first start acting?
KRISTA: My very first acting role was in my kindergarten play. I played the Queen of Africa and had no lines. I fell in love with performing from being a part of a song-and-dance troupe called Showbiz, from Danville, CA.
GLITTER: Who do you play on the ABC show, Dr. Ken?
KRISTA: I play Ken and Allison Park’s sixteen-year-old sassy, fashionable, phone-obsessed daughter, Molly Park!
GLITTER: What is it like work alongside Ken Jeong?
KRISTA: Working with Ken is amazing. He is such a bold and inspiring actor, and at the same time so kind and generous. He pours his heart into this show.
GLITTER: What other shows and movies can you be seen in?
KRISTA: I’ve had the pleasure of guest appearing in some really fun shows, with really great casts including the Thundermans (NICK), Agent Carter (ABC), The Middle (ABC), Cougar Town (TBS), Switched at Birth (Freeform), Hand of God (Amazon), Parenthood (NBC), and some cool movies too with Kevin Bacon and Alan Arkin!
GLITTER: Who are your idols?
KRISTA: I really idolize Suzy Nakamura, who plays my TV Mom. She is a smart, beautiful and versatile actress, and a trailblazer for Asian American Actresses. She is always thinking of how she can help people – whether it’s making sure we are hydrated or donating her time to homeless people in need.
I also idolize Kristi Yamaguchi. She is an incredible athlete, and is a perfect example of how hard work pays off. She additionally is constantly giving to the community WHILE being a mom of two.
GLITTER: What is one motto that you live by?
KRISTA: “Never hide. Live. And Ride the Sun to Tomorrow.” It’s from the Croods. An awesome movie.
GLITTER: What is your favorite thing to do on your downtime?
KRISTA: I like to light a candle, and clean my house! It really makes me feel zen and clear.
GLITTER: What is one thing you can’t live without?
KRISTA: Oy…I hate to admit it, but I feel so lost when I don’t have my phone.
GLITTER: Is there something about you fans would be surprised to know?
KRISTA: My dream is to live in a tree-house.
GLITTER: What projects do you have coming up that you can tell us about?
KRISTA: The Dr. Ken episodes keep getting funnier and funnier so stay tuned!
