Sarah Hyland Strength to Speak Up about her Weight
Sarah Hyland has recently opened up on Twitter about her health.
Sarah went through a kidney transplant in 2012 due to her fight with kidney dysplasia.
Recently, she has been receiving bullying comments on social media attacking her weight, including “eat a burger” and “your head is bigger than your body and that’s disgusting”.
On Twitter, Sarah explains that she hasn’t “had the greatest year” and it “has brought a lot of changes and with that, physical changes.”
She was told that she can no longer work out. Like many of us, that is very difficult and frustrating news. Sarah states that she loves to “be strong” and that she uses that word a lot because “strength is everything” and being strong has gotten her where she is today, both mentally and physically.
She mentions that she is “not a fan of ‘being skinny’” but due to her health issues, she has lost a lot of muscle mass and she no longer feels in control of what her body looks like.
The bullying comments really picked up after her ironically enough, anti bullying post, which she received accusations of promoting anorexia in. The Instagram featured her in her boyfriend’s apparel line with the caption: “Buy a shirt and a portion of the proceeds go to the Anti-Bullying Alliance!”
Sarah explains that the hurtful comments are not affecting her yet she fears they are impacting young girls and wants to emphasize that is not her intention. She states “no one should aim to be the weight that I am right now” and she is “working hard by eating as much protein as possible and continue to be strong and healthy”.
Sarah’s inspiring message ends with “I’m steadfast and solid and will conquer my obstacles” and most importantly, “my self confidence is not rendered from your comments. Because I will always be too fat. I will always be too skinny… Love the you you set out to be. Be the best version of yourself. Be healthy!”
