Billie Lourd Opens Up About Carrie Fischer’s Death
Billie Lourd recently sat down with Town&Country Magazine to share what her life has been like after the sudden deaths of her mother (Carrie Fischer) and grandmother (Debbie Reynolds).
Lourd shared how her mom’s words about finding comedy in sadness were able to help her mourn their respective deaths:
“If life’s not funny, then it’s just true—and that would be unacceptable. Even when she died, that was what got me through that whole thing. When Debbie died the next day, I could just picture her saying, “Well, she’s upstaging me once again, of course—she had to.”
Lourd also shared what it was like to grow up underneath the famous actress. Having a parent be openly vocal about mental health and drug issues allowed Lourd to understand how important it is to live authentically. After all, it was her mom that was always honest about her life.
Beyond that Lourd described how her life has changed since last year:
“I love being my mother’s daughter, and it’s something I always will be, but now I get to be just Billie.”
While Lourd talked about how she’s been able to just Billie, it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t honor her family’s legacy everyday. The actress is incredibly thankful for the memories and lessons that she was given by her mother and grandmother.
