EPSN’s Jemele Hill On Being Better During Chaos

What role do you take as an individual when the nation corners you? SportsCaster Jemele Hill creates her own answer.

With controversy surrounding her stance against a political agenda on Twitter, Hill has since spoke to The Undefeateda pop culture outlet owned by ESPN to better disperse her reasoning.

There’s so much controversy stemming from both sides of the political party that deal with the recent events of NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem. The stance to take as a public figure seems to take residence with Hill as she explains,”disappointing her grandmother as a young girl by stealing beer to impress her friends.  All she said was, “I am extremely disappointed in you,” and walked away. I was heartbroken because I felt like I had let my grandmother, who was one of my best friends, down.”-The Wrap

That same disappointment found its way back to Hill when ESPN confronted her about her Twitter rants regarding the current president, Donald Trump. “It’s simply indicative of just how complex things get for people in OUR position — especially if you’re a woman and a person of color.”- The Root

Though she states a lesson has been learned in regards to tolerance when holding such a public image; she says that her grandmother’s lesson was beyond stating not to steal but to be better overall and in all situations.
