Google Honors Tejano Artist Selena
As they say, anything for Selena.
In celebration of the 28th anniversary of Selena’s debut album, Selena, Google decided to honor her memory with a musical doodle. This doodle was featured on their homepage which included a video that eventually directed you to all things, Selena. In the video, it shows Selena’s transition from a little girl singing in her bedroom to the megastar she eventually became. From the red nail polish, boog hoop earrings, and red lipstick stain on the microphone, Google nailed this tribute.
The marketing director of this project, Perla Campos, was able to resonate with Selena on a personal level. She too grew up in Texas in a Mexican American home and as a child, Selena was one of her inspirations to be successful. She describes Selena’s mission of connecting people as the sole reason for creating this project. “Selena was always about transcending boundaries, and for someone who has such a powerful story to be featured on the homepage of Google—a search engine that connects people the way she connected people–that is such a beautiful thing…” Campos stated. This day certainly left people excited to hear that classic tune and reminisce on the gift Selena truly was to us.
