Justine Skye Kneels While Singing The National Anthem
She is taking a stand for the rights of the others.
Friday night, Justine Skye performed the national anthem at the Brooklyn Nets basketball game and during that performance, she took a knee. She posted her performance on Instagram and expressed how challenging it was to take that stand. “Got a bit shaky at the end.. was pretty uneasy about singing the anthem and probably won’t ever be invited to sing it again but I had to take a knee for the opening game in my city and let my voice be heard. We will not be silenced ✊🏾 #blacklivesmatter.” Justine stated. This was an empowering move on Justine’s part and it is definitely needed in today’s climate.
The NBA has recently made an announcement expressing the disciplinary action that will be taken if players do not stand for the national anthem. For some, this has caused a divide and controversy on the rights of players. Having a guest come in and take the stand that NBA players are being excluded from is a needed statement. The message of trying to fight for equality of all races is big regardless of who the messenger is.
This was an empowering move on Justine’s part and it is definitely needed in today’s climate.
