Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson Goes Public With Her Miscarriage
The gold medalist came forward with her husband Andrew East when she announced the sad news on YouTube.
19% of adults have experienced the death of a child, including miscarriages. Johnson was 6 weeks pregnant when she lost her child.
The video started out in good spirits, as Johnson held up two positive pregnancy tests. She told the camera, “We’re going to have a baby. I definitely wasn’t planning this but it’s really, really exciting. How am I gonna tell Andrew? He’s going to be a daddy.”
This initial excitement changed quickly though, as you see Shawn and Andrew headed to the doctor due to stomach pain she had been experiencing. Johnson realizes that the pregnancy is not viable, and was terminated naturally.
While the experience was tough, and probably very hard to share with her fans, Johnson stated, “We believe God’s got a bigger plan for us. All we can do is be positive otherwise we just sink into a hole.”
We hope that Shawn’s heartbreaking experience shows women that they do not need to suffer in silence following the loss of a pregnancy. Her strength and courage to make public such story is a gift far bigger than she could have imagined, as the video has been viewed over one million times.
