Grown-ish Gets Premiere Date

The highly anticipated spin-off to the ABC sitcom Black-ish is coming to Freeform, and fans can officially mark their calendars.

The fan favorite character Zoey Johnson, played by America’s sweetheart Yara Shahidi, has gotten her own spinoff, where she is going off to college at Southern California University. The show is supposed to outline Zoey’s journey into adulthood and how difficult life is outside home.

Among the celebrities attached to the new show, Deon Cole, another fan favorite from the parent show, “Let it Shine” actor Trevor Jackson, “Secret Life of The American Teenager’s” and Selena Gomez’s best friend Francia Raisa, and Atlanta singers Chloe and Halle Bailey.

The show as picked up by Freeform was in order to make sure they can celebrate the power, possibility, and inclusivity of youths in today’s day and age. Freeform has given the show a 13 episode order, beginning with a two-episode season premiere on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018.

The order will put Zoey in uncomfortable situations tackling social issues and other complexities. This is especially interesting because Shahidi has recently got accepted to Harvard University, and she is also a very strong activist in today’s social climate.

Hopefully, viewers can learn and live through Zoey Johnson!
