Colin Kaepernick Is Named Citizen of the Year by GQ
He is being honored for his efforts to raise awareness of systematic oppression.
GQ Magazine has honored Colin Kaepernick as the “Citizen of the Year” for their December issue. Known as the athlete who decided to use his platform to shed light on the injustice of police brutality, GQ is showing that they stand with Kaepernick. He made the decision to kneel during the National Anthem as he felt the sentiments of the American flag were not being upheld by all citizens.
The former 49ers quarterback has been without an active job for more than a year and has officially filed to take legal suit against the NFL. His protest has caused major controversy and has even provoked words from the current President. Throughout all of this, Kaepernick has maintained his silence and let his activism speak for him. We are excited to see Kaepernick continue this journey and hope this cover continues to bring light to the issue.
