Hollywood Women Show Strength, Despite Being Victims of Sexual Assault
When it comes to Hollywood life, it seems like there has been a new sexual misconduct allegation every time we blink. We are so focused on the disgust found in the conduct of these men that we overlook the true power, dignity, and strength it took for women to come out of the woodwork and share their stories.
Among these women include Reese Witherspoon, America Ferrera, Jennifer Lawrence, Lady GaGa, and Viola Davis. These women are certainly not the only people that have been put in extremely inappropriate situations. Although there is no counting the exact number of women (and men) that have been affected, this limited list shows a glimpse of what can happen to even the most popular people.
In light of the allegations, a movement, “Me Too,” has exploded all over the internet. The movement includes simply posting the words, “Me Too,” to show a simple community of people that have been included sexual assault or inappropriate misconduct.
Instead of looking at the negative things that the media puts forward, I think it’s important to look at the amazing strength it took for these countless number of people to speak out. Sexual assault is not something that is thrown around lightheartedly.
Speaking out about sexual assault makes a person feel weak and vulnerable. However, bringing these issues to light shows how powerful truthful words can be.
