‘She’s Gotta Have It’ Star DeWanda Wise Joins ‘Captain Marvel’

She’s Gotta Have It star, DeWanda Wise is making her movie debut in Marvel’s Captain Marvel.

The Netflix actress will have a co-starring role alongside Brie Larson, who stars as Captain Marvel.

Wise currently portrays the role of Nola Darling in the Netflix’s series, She’s Gotta Have It, based off of Spike Lee’s 1986 film of the same name. The series has been renewed for a second season.

Wise expressed her joy and excitement to become apart of the Marvel Universe on her Instagram, thanking fans for their support. In addition, she mentions she has “been holding this secret for a moment, and I still can’t believe it.”

Fellow co-star, Brie Larson, also expressed her excitement on Twitter at Wise joining the cast.

It’s true. On my way to join the @Marvel Universe. Thank you for the beautiful outpouring of yaaaaasssssedness. Been holding this secret for a moment, and I STILL can’t believe it. I promise you there isn’t a single ounce of pessimism left in my body. I gotta retire Black Daria, y’all cuz WON’T 👏🏾 HE 👏🏾 DO 👏🏾 IT 👏🏾 #CaptainMarvel 💥🤛🏾

She will also join Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, and Samuel L. Jackson in the superhero film.

Wise’s role in the film is currently unknown. Although, many fans hope she will portray Monica Rambeau, who assists Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) in the comics. The character Monica Rambeau is also known as the superheroine Spectrum.

Captain Marvel’s expected release date is March 8, 2019.
