#TIMESUP: What You Need To Know About Hollywood’s Anti-Harassment Campaign

It’s officially time up on sexual harassment.

The women of Hollywood have come together to create a campaign to help fight sexual abuse.

The Time’s Up campaign focuses on supporting the victims of sexual abuse not only in Hollywood, but in other workplaces.

In a letter (printed as in advert in the New York Times), the ladies of Hollywood express solidarity with all women and “to seek representation, opportunities, benefits and pay for all women workers” along with “greater representation of women of color, immigrant women, and lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women.”

The letter is in response to an original letter sent by the members of Alianza Nacional de Campesinas (the National Farmworker Women’s Alliance) expressing their own solidarity to stand with Hollywood actors against sexual assault and harassment.

The initiative is said to be a “unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere…from movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike.”

The panel consists of stars that include Shonda Rhimes, America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon and hundreds of Hollywood actresses, writers, and directors. The project comes in the wake of the many sexual abuse allegations that have come forth in the last few months.

In addition, the campaign includes a legal defense fund to support both female and male victims fight sexual assault, sexual harassment, and inequality in the workplace. The fund has a goal of $15m and has currently raised $13m of the target goal. The National Women’s Law Center will head the fund with a team of lawyers and public relations professionals to provide assistance to those ready to take a stand.

The group has partnered with organizations that “advocate for equality and safety” and empowerment, such as the Equal Rights Advocates and BetterBrave.
