‘Black Lightning’ Premieres Tonight on The CW Network
The long wait for Black Lightning is now over!
Black Lightning premieres tonight on The CW after the mid-season premiere of The Flash.
The new CW superhero show centers around Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) and his family as he returns to the role of Black Lightning. As he’s set to bring his superhero alter-ego out of retirement, his daughters may be developing powers of their own.
The eldest daughter, Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams) is a medical school student who teaches part-time at her father’s school. Her younger sister, Jennifer (China Anne McClain) who is a student with a bit of a wild streak.
The world premiere of the show took place during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend at the event, “DC in D.C.” hosted by DC Comics.
Critics have already begun to praise the show, stating that it feels different than any other CW show and set a new bar for the superhero genre.
The series, developed by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, focuses on many social issues that include race, divorced families, and violence.
The show’s stars have been expressing their excitement on social media as McClain and Nafessa Williams posted reminders about the premiere.
