McKayla Maroney Will Not Be Fined If She Speaks up About Larry Nassar
U.S. Olympian McKayla Maroney will not be fined if she speaks up about Larry Nassar.
In 2016, McKayla Maroney settled a $1.25 million settlement against Larry Nassar, who was the team doctor for the USA gymnastics team. The team USA doctor has pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and over 140 women spoke out about it.
Previously, McKayla was told not to speak and give a victim statement about the allegations or she would be fined $100,000. A team USA representative told E! News that if she speaks up, she will not be fined. E! News quoted the representative saying it, “has not sought and will not seek any money from McKayla Maroney for her brave statements made in describing her victimization and abuse by Larry Nassar, nor for any victim impact statements she wants to make to Larry Nassar at this hearing or at any subsequent hearings related to his sentencing.”
Kristen Bell, Chrissy Teigen, and Michael Spur offered to pay Maroney’s fine if she did decide to make a victim statement. Chrissy Teigen took it to twitter to help Maroney.
The entire principle of this should be fought – an NDA to stay quiet about this serial monster with over 140 accusers, but I would be absolutely honored to pay this fine for you, McKayla. pic.twitter.com/lsBEgEqZpD
