Aly Raisman Testified Against Team USA Doctor Larry Nassar in Court
The gold medalist took the stand and confronted the man who abused her and others for years.
On Tuesday, the courtroom was full as victims of Team USA’s Doctor Larry Nassar confronted their abuser. With more than 140 women coming forward, the court expected more than 90 victims’ statements to be delivered in the courtroom. At 54, Nassar has been accused of sexually assaulting former athletes of his, from USA Gymnastics and Michigan State, as well as family friends.
From Monday to Friday, young women of all ages delivered powerful victim statements. Initially, the 23-year-old two-time Olympian announced that she had no intentions of attending the hearing. However, she made her way into Michigan’s Ingham County Circuit Courtroom alongside gymnast Jordyn Wieber at Friday’s hearing.
This outing was not her first time speaking out on the abuse. Earlier this year, she featured a 60 Minutes special, and she talked to People Magazine in November about the difficulty in coming forward.
Also announced, the USA Gymnastics officials have announced on Thursday that they have cut ties with Karolyi Camp, where a number of the athletes have said they were sexually abused by Nassar.
