‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Against Domestic Abuse

ABC show Grey’s Anatomy recently changed the title of their midseason premiere from “Four Seasons in One Day” to “1-800-799-7233”, which is the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

The premiere will pick up where the finale left off, telling of Jo’s (played by Camilla Luddington) struggles with her relationship with abusive husband Paul (played by Matthew Morrison). Producers of the show have told in interviews to different media outlets that the show takes a dark and twisted turn in their relationship, but eventually ends up coming out on the side of redemption.

The executive producer of the series Krista Vernoff tweeted about the change, revealing that Dr. Andrew Deluca (Giacomo Gianniotti) is who came up with the idea originally. The goal of the next few episodes is to show the reality of domestic violence in relationships but to also show strength and hope through that darkness. The decision of an extremely popular show to take such a stand against domestic violence is extremely important, and we hope to see this theme spread more across the entertainment industry.
