Brother of Stephon Clark Interrupts City Hall + Sacramento Kings Plead for Justice for Stephon Clark’s Death

Residents, friends, and family of 22-year-old Stephon Clark have spoken out about his devastating death by police officers.

On Sunday night, March 18, Stephon Clark, an unarmed black man, was shot multiple times and was killed by the Sacramento police. CNN reported that the fatal shooting occurred when Sacramento police officers responded to a report that a man was breaking car windows and was hiding in a backyard. The police then pursued a man, who was Clark, and saw him hop a fence into his grandmother’s backyard.

After Clark was shot and killed, investigators found only a cell phone near his body. CNN explained that the police fired because the thought that they were in danger. Stephon’s death angered many residents and loved-ones of the victim.

The Sacramento Kings showed their support during Sunday’s game on March 25 when they wore warm-up shirts that said: “Accountability. We Are One” on the front and “#StephonClark” on the back. The NBA team also released a public service announcement.

Tuesday night, March 27, Stephon’s brother Stevante Clark interrupted a City Council meeting and chanting his brother’s name. Protests have occurred throughout Sacramento demanding justice for Stephon Clark. Protesters plan on protesting Thursday, March 29 after Stephon’s funeral.
