Jermaine Lamarr Cole, better known as famous rapper J. Cole, has released an LP this past Friday titled KOD.

The album name has multiple meanings, as he tweeted out:

The 33 year-old rapper covers a wide range of issues and controversies within 12 tracks of the album. Fans and listeners alike speculate that there are no features. J. Cole has reached platinum twice without any features on his music and the mysterious rapper kiLL Edward, who is featured on this project, is merely a pseudonym for the rapper himself.

J. Cole tells amazing stories through his lyrics, and his songs on this album range from his classically mellow beats in “Brackets,” to his more aggressive and passionate spitting lyrics on the other tracks. This album is still provocative, engaging and desirable to listen to.

He takes the song, “1985” (Intro to “The Fall Off”), to encourage current stars to not abuse their wealth by using drugs to appear a certain way. He explains how he has come to this realization after his own experimenting and conveys the message that life is short, warning younger rappers to see the bigger picture.

His sound has changed but his messages are prominent and have matured too. KOD is available now.
