Charlize Theron Gained 50 Pounds for Movie Role
She ate a lot of Mac and Cheese at 2 AM.
To become closer and more in tune with her character Marlo, an overwhelmed mother in her new film Tully, Theron put on a whopping 50 pounds.
“I wanted to feel what this woman felt, and I think that was a way for me to get closer to her and get into that mindset,” the actress told Entertainment Tonight. “You know, it was a huge surprise to me. I got hit in the face pretty hard with depression. Yeah, for the first time in my life I was eating so much processed foods and I drank way too much sugar. I was not that fun to be around on this film”. She even ate In-N-Out for breakfast.
Putting on the weight eventually began feeling like a job. “I remember having to set my alarm in the middle of the night in order to just maintain [the weight]”.
After filming ended, it took Theron a year and a half to lose the weight.
Tully will come out in theaters May 4.
