Jay-Z’s Mom, Gloria Carter, Will Receive GLAAD Media Award Honor

Gloria Carter will receive a special recognition award at the Annual GLAAD Media Awards.
She will be recognized for the award because of her significant coming-out story on her son’s, Jay-Z, song “Smile,” from the album 4:44. In the song, Gloria Carter is heard at the end of the song, “The world is changing and they say it’s time to be free. But you live with the fear of just being me.”
In accepting the speech, Carter will include a speech on her experience coming out as a woman of color.
