Zendaya Represents at Beautycon + Lucy Hale and Hillary Clinton
The star made waves at the festival in NYC when she got real about beauty representations, or rather, the lack thereof, in the entertainment industry.
Beautycon tweeted out the singers most thought-provoking words below.
“I’m using my privilege to show you how much beauty there is in the black community. I am Hollywood’s ‘acceptable’ version of a black girl and that has to change.” – @Zendaya at our Fireside Chat with @badassboz at #BeautyconNYC ✊

The actress isn’t wrong when she says that this needs to change. There are too many black women who aren’t given the same opportunities because they have a darker skin tone. This isn’t just a problem for actresses either. It’s a problem for black women in every industry across the board. These are real women who need to be given the same opportunities as anyone else who is in the same position. Black women regardless of the tone of their skin should be accepted, respected, and championed as motivated, independent individuals.
Zendaya wasn’t the only star seen at Beautycon. Lucy Hale was also spotted at the event. The actress was on hand to participate in a Q&A with other special guests. Hale took a picture with one of her idols, none other than Hillary Clinton captioning the photo “just gonna leave this one right here”.
