Why Beyoncé and Solange Went to Therapy as Children
The Knowles sisters each went to therapy when they were young for one specific reason. Tina Lawson, the mother of powerhouse songstresses Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, recently revealed in an interview with reporter Maria Shriver on her Facebook page that she used to take the girls to see a professional to discourage competitiveness between them.
“I had days that I devoted to [each of them]. On Wednesdays, I took off from work and that was Solange’s day. She was a lot younger than Beyoncé and it was tough because [Beyoncé] was five years older and Beyoncé was this little superstar in our city,” explained the attentive matriarch.
Her goal in sending them to therapy was to encourage the eldest daughter to be more sensitive to her younger sister. She wanted to be sure that Solange would not feel neglected living in Beyoncé’s shadow.
Lawson confirmed that the experience was truly beneficial for the girls in the long run because, even today, they are fiercely protective of each other. “I just spent a lot of time teaching my girls not to be insecure just because there was another girl around because you are the most beautiful thing going. I think that’s really important,” she summarized flawlessly.
