While on stage at the Billboard Music Awards, Kelly Clarkson speaks out on the school shooting that took place in  Santa Fe, Texas on May 18th, 2018During the Billboard Music Awards, Kelly Clarkson was chosen to be the host for this year’s award show. At the beginning of the awards show, teary-eyed, she asked for a moment of action instead of a moment of silence for the victims of the Santa Fe High School shooting that took place last week. She mentioned that these moments of silence are not working and the only way to stop the violence is to have a moment of action.

Viewers of the Billboard Awards retweeted and wrote on Twitter their thoughts to Kelly Clarkson’s remarks on the school shootings. The video attached shows what Kelly Clarkson said to open up the Billboard Awards.

While on stage, she said, “With my four children, I can’t imagine getting the phone call or that knock on the door.” She then went on to say that the award show was meant to honor those who lost their lives in the Santa Fe High School shooting and that viewers at home should have a moment of action within their communities as well.

Nowadays, high school shootings have been frequently appearing in the news. One of the most recent high school shootings that took place before the one in Santa Fe was the shooting in Parkland, Florida on Valentine’s Day of this year taking the lives of 17 students and faculty members.

Kelly Clarkson’s plea for action is what most people are requesting for after the many school shootings that have been taking place in the U.S. The plea for gun control laws and regulations would be the best solution to help de-escalate the number of school shootings within our country.
