Duchess Meghan Markle has her mother, Doria Ragland, stand by her side during the Royal Wedding to help represent her biracial identity.

Meghan Markle, identifying herself as being half African-American and Caucasian, incorporates diversity throughout the wedding by placing the acceptance of interracial love within the air.

Starting with the Duchess mother’s Afrocentric hairdo and nose piercing, to the racially mixed choir, all the way down to the African-American Bishop, Bishop Michael Curry, really accentuates the enactment of diversity. This portrayal of the different races is an epitome of our world and that we are all a melting pot of different cultures and nationalities.

Duke Harry and Duchess Meghan’s declaration of their love to each other on their wedding is a representation that love has no color. Even the famous Serena Williams’ attendance to the Royal Wedding with her husband Alexis Ohanian demonstrated their support of interracial love. She attended the wedding wearing her hair in long twists joining the Afrocentric look alongside Markle’s mother.

Within the ceremony, the choir dedicates and strays from traditional hymns to sing, the famous African-American singer Ben E. King’s Stand By Me. This acapella presentation of this song was meant to embody diversity, unity, and culture. It was apparent that the choir was filled with members who were of different cultural backgrounds.

The Royal Wedding, by far, was the moment for the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
