SZA May Have Permanently Damaged Her Vocal Chords
The BBMA’s Top R&B Female Artist of 2018 has revealed that she is taking a hiatus from performing for the sake of her voice.
SZA, AKA Solána Rowe, was working so hard on Top Dawg Entertainment’s 30-day Championship Tour that her vocal chords are in serious jeopardy. Top Dawg himself announced via an Instagram update, “I have to take SZA off for a few days on the tour. Her vocal chords are swollen and she have to rest her voice to prevent any permanent damage.”
The 27-year-old singer later shared Top Dawg’s note on her Instagram including her own message. “I’ve been touring for 11 months. This didn’t happen overnight . Ive been troubleshooting for a while now and usually steroids and pushing through help. They don’t this time,” she explained, “If I don’t pause now I’ll be forced to pause permanently.”
SZA made her return to the stage at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, May 29th to resume the tour. However, she followed the performance up with a series of since-deleted tweets (archived by Vulture) including, “My voice is permanently injured,” followed by, “Tonight was the test. That settles that. 👍🏾” then finally, “I just wanna be left alone my priorities are fucked up. They been fucked up. I need space goodbye.”
While we certainly hope that we won’t actually have to bid SZA farewell, we can only wait and see what’s next for her.
