Auli’i Cravalho’s ‘Rise’ from ‘Moana’ to TV
Auli’i Cravalho is more than just your average high school senior.
We first learned of the talented teenager as the voice behind Disney’s first Polynesian Princess, Moana.
In a recent interview with Variety, Auli’i Cravalho talks transitioning from voice acting into her first onscreen role as Lilette Suarez in the NBC series “Rise.”
“I experienced a lot of firsts on the show,” she says. “The first time seeing my face on screen, the first time playing a character coming into her own, the first time having a love interest and creating a vulnerability within myself to be able to fall in love with an individual. It was very new and scary.”
Although the musical drama series was not renewed for a second season, it gave Cravalho, who was used to conveying emotion only through her voice, the opportunity to “figure out what to do with [her] body” and develop her own style.
There’s no word yet on Cravalho’s future on the small screen, but her next big project is reprising her role as “Moana” in Disney’s first ever Hawaiian-language dubbed movie, which will premiere on June 10, 2018.
