How To Help Animals Without Really Trying

If you are a lover of animals but don’t necessarily have the time to volunteer at an organization, the money to donate to a charity, the energy to adopt and care for an animal from the shelter, or you simply don’t feel as though whatever you’re contributing is enough, here are a few suggestions so you can do your part without really doing much.

One way you can help animals without really trying is by doing your best to buy products that are not tested on animals.  Animal testing is done in order to see how safe all kinds of products are before selling them to the public, anything from make-up to household cleaning products are tested on animals.  These cruel experiments result in animals receiving burns, all kinds of permanent damage, going deaf, going blind, and death.

It is not enough to check the label for a sign letting you know this product is cruelty-free because it’s not technically regulated and these companies could still be purchasing materials from other places that do perform animal testing.  In order to know for sure which of your favorite brands are definitely not testing on animals or supporting testing, check accountable websites such as PETA.org.

Some people decide to maintain a meat-free diet in order to improve their health, lose weight, or help the environment.  However, most would agree that the main reason people go vegan or vegetarian is specifically to help animals.  Once you refrain from eating meat long enough it becomes an easy habit, making it one of the most effortless and effective ways to help animals.  It is, however, quite reasonable to know that going vegetarian may not be an option for you.  Cooking and shopping for your family is easier when meat is in the picture, the tastiest, fastest, and cheapest foods often have meat in them, and after spending a lifetime consuming meat it can be very difficult to completely change your diet.  Although, if it is something you have considered, definitely try it out if you are capable.

This next way to help is also relevant to the food we purchase and consume.  It is important to always be mindful of the food you are buying and how the company you are purchasing the product from treats their animals.  One way to do this is buying organic food from companies you have researched.  For example, your grocery store may sell cage-free eggs from a number of companies.  You could quickly google whether or not these companies treat the chickens they receive their eggs from well, more often than not you can find reviews made about the companies showing whether or not they are true to their cage-free policy, as well as how well they treat their animals.

If you don’t intend on pursuing a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, you can still help animals just by purchasing meat from companies that don’t mistreat their animals, keep them in good conditions, and feed their animals a natural diet they are meant to have, rather than food with fillers and/ or antibiotics.

Human compassion can easily be measured by the way people treat animals.  It is so important for us to protect animals, as well as everyone/ everything else that does not have a voice to protect themselves.
