Chelsea Clinton Responds Gracefully to Twitter Users
The former President and Secretary of State’s daughter is a master of keeping it classy, even when the internet gets especially rude.
The incident began when a Twitter user compared the former first daughter to Howdy Doody, even sharing a photo where her face is replaced with that of that puppet. However, this jab was no match for Clinton as evidenced by her superior response in which she pointed out that Howdy Doody “stood up to bullies” and “believed in being kind to animals.”
Thanks to Richard & all the people on @Twitter who’ve compared me to Howdy Doody, I now know a bit about him, including that he stood up to bullies & believed in being kind to animals. I’m always happy to be on the side of allyship & kindness. Thanks again! https://t.co/5crLGKnL3U

She also responded to another hater who made the same suggestion in a since-deleted tweet.
Hi Lee! Your prerogative to be offended on Howdy Doody’s behalf. I like to think that the people & marionettes, including Howdy Doody, who stand against bullies & who stand for kindness will always find each other. Wishing you & yours a lovely evening. https://t.co/NobXwWReuS

It wasn’t over yet, the She Persisted author then received even more feedback about her appearance when another Twitter user, DeplorableDays, likened her to Donkey from Shrek.
Hi DeplorableDays! I adore donkeys. They’re fierce, strong & determined. Thank you for the compliment. Have a great night! https://t.co/m7HIdBq8mC

Naturally, Clinton took the high road once again, proving that you can indeed kill them with kindness.
