Gina Rodriguez Funds College Scholarship For Undocumented Latinx Student

Gina Rodriguez is using her Emmy promotion money to fund a scholarship for a Latinx student.

To be more specific, the Jane the Virgin star is taking the money, that would usually go towards advertisement and swag for the show, and making this generous decision instead. Rodriguez says to The Hollywood Reporter, “FYC [For Your Consideration] is a bizarre dance.” She adds that “whatever you do requires an insane amount of money.” And with that crazy amount of money, she will make a high school student’s dreams come true.

Rodriguez did get the okay before jumping into the decision, explaining “our show has always jumped at any opportunity to help me do something for the Latinx community.” She continues, “So I asked my showrunner, Jennie [Snyder Urman], if we could do something different with the money this year.”

Rodriguez worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles in order to find the student to receive the award. The student is a young woman that will be attending Princeton University in the fall.
