ABC Announces ‘Roseanne’ Spinoff Without Roseanne

(ABC)

ABC announces their Roseanne spinoff is officially a go, but without Roseanne Barr.

The spinoff will have the working title of The Conners, named after the family in focus. Actors John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman will all be a part of the show to play their same roles on Roseanne.

It should be made clear that Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in The Conners, according to ABC. Roseanne was canceled last month after Barr sent out a racist tweet about White House adviser Valarie Jarrett. Barr compared Jarrett, who is African American, to an ape. ABC ultimately decided to pull the plug on the reboot after Barr’s tweet.

The network states. “The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter, and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.”

ABC continues with “We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. The statement goes on to say, “We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

The spinoff is set to air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. this fall.
