The 25-year-old singer and actress voiced her solidarity with immigrant families at the Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation premiere on Saturday, June 30th.

Gomez was in attendance to promote the movie–in which she stars as Mavis, the daughter of Dracula–but the event took place just a few miles away from a Families Belong Together rally in downtown Los Angeles, and she certainly wasn’t going to ignore the coincidence.

In a discussion of President Trump’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, Selena remarked to The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s extremely disheartening,” adding, “There’s a lot of confusion and anger.” As a Mexican-American woman who also grew up in Texas, the issue is especially personal for her. “It’s definitely been affecting so many people who are close to me,” she said.

The “Back To You” singer even tweeted in support of the cause just the day before the concurrence of the rally and Hotel Transylvania premiere, stating that immigrant families need “protection, understanding and opportunity, not detention.”
