The Duchess of Sussex will be attending the women’s singles final at Wimbledon to cheer on her pal on Saturday, July 14th.

On Thursday, July 12th, Kensington Palace released the statement that both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton would be present for the final match between six-time champ Serena Williams and German 2016 finalist Angelique Kerber. These royal ladies won’t be sitting in on the event solely for their love of the game, however, Meghan is actually personal friends with tennis legend Serena.

The two trailblazing women first met at the 2010 Super Bowl, long before Meghan’s rise to regal status, and have maintained their friendship ever since. Meghan actually frequently attends Serena’s matches at the US Open and Wimbledon, and Serena herself made an appearance at the royal wedding this summer.

“We’ve always had a wonderful friendship and every year for a couple years she comes out to Wimbledon, has supported me and now she’s supporting me in a different role. But our friendship is still exactly the same,” said Williams, “We always have supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot.”
