John Krasinski Reflects on Losing ‘Captain America’ Role
The 38-year-old actor discovered that he didn’t get the part on his wife’s birthday, of all days!
In a recent interview with Variety, John Krasinski revealed that almost eight years ago he went out for the part of Captain America, but–as we now know very well–Marvel didn’t consider him to be the best fit.
The A Quiet Place actor and director recalled receiving a phone call from his agent on his wife and co-star Emily Blunt’s birthday in which he was given the disappointing news that Chris Evans had been chosen for the role instead. “And I remember I said, ‘Yeah, look at him. He’s Captain America,'” Krasinski declared.
Despite the casting letdown, this A+ hubby wasn’t about to let his wife’s special day be a bummer. When Emily offered to cancel their plans for the evening, John humbly replied, “It’s Chris Evans. Of course we’re going to dinner.”
All competition aside, the two stars are actually pals as it turns out. Evans even tweeted at Krasinski to commend him on A Quiet Place after seeing it in theaters.
Oh man… thank you Chris! https://t.co/yqr75dUzJC

Even though he never became the nation’s most patriotic superhero, we’ll still always be super obsessed with John Krasinski for his Emmy-nominated performance as Jim Halpert on The Office.
