11-Year-Old Kheris Rogers’ Empowering Flexin’ In My Complexion Movement
Eleven-year-old Kheris Rogers is certainly “flexin’ in her complexion” and we are here for it.
Kheris Rogers is only eleven-years-old but changing the world to make it an empowering place for all. She was bullied as early as first grade and throughout years of school because she had a darker complexion than her peers. She recalls a horrible experience when a teacher handed her a black crayon during coloring, not a brown one. Her self-confidence was at an all-time low.
Things changed when she walked in a school fashion show, and with her natural hair and glowing skin. Her proud older sister tweeted out a photo set with the lighthearted hashtag #FlexinInHerComplexion, a term their grandmother always reminded them of.
It was quickly and widely received, with compliments and encouragement pouring in. It was then young Rogers decided to combine her newfound confidence and love for fashion to start a movement. She launched her clothing line, Flexin’ In My Complexion, to combat bullies and remind people to love themselves in the skin they are in.
The brand pulled in over $100K in sales the first year and has been supported by celebrities like Lupita Nyongo. Rogers has modeled on America’s Next Top Model with Tyra Banks, campaigned with Nike, and has been supported by Fashionnova. Kheris is an inspiring, courageous example of what it means to beautiful inside and out.
