Amandla Stenberg Makes Cover of Out Magazine
At only 19-years-old, Amandla Stenberg has already made waves in the LGBTQ community and continues to be a catalyst for activism among her generation.
The progressive use of the actress’s platform has caught the eye of the leading media source for LGBTQ fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle news: Out Magazine. The online publication reaches millions of readers per month, supporting brands that cater to the gay community, and bringing light to its members. This month, the spotlight is on three young, queer Faces of Fall in an exclusive cover edition, including Stenberg.
“I have this platform, and if I don’t use it as a tool to do something greater, then I don’t really know what the point of it would be, you know?”

The teen’s career has skyrocketed since her onscreen debut as Rue in The Hunger Games, and continues to grow, through her appearance in films such as Everything, Everything, and Where Hands Touch, and upcoming films such as The Hate U Give and The Darkest Minds. As Stenberg’s media presence has developed, she has continued to remain open about her identity, serving as a role model to young females to stay true to theirs. Officially having come out as a gay woman, the actress expresses to Out Magazine about the importance of staying true to herself.
“There’s power in just professing who you are.”
Undoubtedly worthy of a spot on Out Magazine’s cover for this monthly issue, the young star continues to use her platform to promote change, defy standards, and serve as a role model for members of the LGBTQ youth, and young women in general.
