On My Block Stars Win Teen Choice for Best Breakout Show

On August 12th, the stars of the popular Netflix series On My Block were in the for the surprise of the night when they won the award for Best Breakout TV show.
As many viewers may know, On My Block took Netflix by storm in March when it aired its 10-episode premier season. Best known for its coming of age storyline and diverse cast, On My Block won the award against other shows such as Anne with an E, Black Lightning, Siren, and 9-1-1.
The show follows the lives of the smart Afro-Latina, Monse (Sierra Capri), the mysterious bad boy, Cesar (Diego Tinoco), the ever sarcastic Ruby (Jason Genao), and the group designated nerd Jamal (Brett Gray) as they make their way through high school, parties, football games and the occasional shootout in their South Central Los Angeles neighborhood.
One month after its release, on April 13, Netflix issued a renewal for the popular comedy, green-lighting filming to begin this upcoming September. It is set to release in Spring 2019 keeping in line with Netflix’s one-season-per-year reputation.
