Possible ‘Supergirl’ Movie is in the Works for Warner Bros.
A Supergirl movie could be heading our way in the future.
Superman’s cousin could be joining us thanks to Warner Bros., DC, and Oren Uziel, according to Deadline. Uziel, who has worked on 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox, is currently working on the script.
There is no word yet on how Supergirl, alter ego Kara Zor-El, will enter the DC Universe, but her origin story shows her leaving her doomed home planet, Krypton, as a teen to be looked after by her cousin, Clark Kent (a.k.a Superman).
It should be no surprise that the movie around the heroine is on the drawing board after the great success of the Wonder Woman film. The Supergirl TV show on The CW is also going strong into its fourth season.
It looks like we will finally see more standalone female superhero movies, too, with Harley Quinn’s Birds of Prey in development and a Batgirl film in the talks, as well. And that is just from DC. Marvel is also putting more female superheroes in a well-deserved spotlight with their Captain Marvel hitting theaters in 2019 and a Black Widow movie in development.
The last time Supergirl was in a standalone film was in 1984. While it didn’t have as much success as the Superman movies prior to the film, it was the first superhero feature film to put a female in the lead role.
