Pretty Woman: The Musical opened its doors to The Great White Way at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City on August 16th, 2018.
For those who don’t know about the film or the musical, it’s about the penniless Vivian Ward who begins to make a living as a prostitute with her best friend Kit. Vivian’s life suddenly changes forever when she meets Edward Lewis one night while working on Hollywood Boulevard. A budding friendship forms between Vivian and Edward and blossoms into something more.
Samantha Barks and Andy Karl lead the cast of this musical adaptation of 1990 romantic classic. Barks makes her Broadway debut in Pretty Woman: The Musical and plays the leading lady Vivian Ward, who was previously played by Julia Roberts in the film. Barks was most well known for her portrayal of Éponine Thénardier in the 2012 musical film Les Misérables.
Karl, who plays the affluent Edward Lewis as previously portrayed by Richard Gere in the film, was more recently known for the 2017 Broadway musical adaptation of Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day. Karl had also received his third Tony Award nomination last year for his portrayal of weatherman Phil Connors.
Barks and Karl are joined by an immensely talented cast which includes Orfeh (Legally Blonde: The Musical) as Kit, Eric Anderson (Waitress, Kinky Boots) as Mr. Thompson, Jason Danieley (The Visit, Next to Normal) as Philip Stuckey, and Ezra Knight (A View from the Bridge, Marvel’s Daredevil) as James Morse.
