Cate Blanchett Delivers an Inspirational Speech at the UN Security Council
Oscar Winner and U.N. Goodwill Ambassador Cate Blanchett imperatively addressed the Rohingya Crisis on Tuesday, August 28 at the United Nations.
Blanchett recently visited Bangladesh where she witnessed a country in desperate need of humanitarian solutions. The crisis in Myanmar has subsequently forced about 700,000 Rohingyas to flee their country and reside in neighboring Bangladesh. The actress expresses the intense “depth of suffering” the Rohingyas have endured – a shockingly routine sequence of murder, violation, and fear, ceaseless on a never-ending loop.
“The scale of displacement is so large and so severe that today there are more Rohingya living in exile than in Myanmar itself.”

“I am a mother, and I saw my own children in the eyes of every single refugee child that I met.i saw myself in every parent. How can any mother endure seeing her child thrown into a fire? Their experiences will never leave me,” Blanchett spoke.
