Netflix, HBO, and More Dominate This Year’s Emmy Awards

Both HBO and Netflix had scored the most Emmys overall for 2018, tying with a total amount of twenty-three Emmys for each of these networks.

Game of Thrones had earned nine Emmys total; two of these wins included Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Peter Dinklage with this year being Dinklage’s third Emmy win. Seven of the fantasy series’ Emmy earnings, such as Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, were received previously at Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony.

HBO programs that were also awarded Emmys included Last Week Tonight with John OliverBarry, and Westworld. Last Week Tonight earned an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series. Both Bill Hader and Henry Winkler earned Emmys for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series respectively.

Westworld actress Thandie Newtown had received an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Netflix had earned some major wins throughout the night. Charlie Brooker and William Bridges earned an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special for the Black Mirror episode “USS Callister.”

The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie was given to Regina King for her work in Seven Seconds. Both Emmy awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie were given to Godless actors Jeff Daniels and Merritt Wever respectively.

The Crown actress Claire Foy earned the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series while Stephen Daldry earned the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

The Amazon comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won big at the Emmys as well and had scored eight wins in total when including its Creative Arts Emmy wins. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel almost swept through the comedy section of the Primetime Emmy Awards that night with wins in Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Rachel Brosnahan, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Alex Borstein.

Mrs. Maisel show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino had also earned back to back Emmy wins for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
