The Emmys Proposal That Left Everyone Teary Eyed

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when director Glenn Weiss proposed to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen, during his acceptance speech for Outstanding Directing of a Variety Special.The Emmy winner started his speech by paying homage to his late mother, who had just passed away two weeks prior.  Weiss shared that his mother always advocated for “Finding the Sunshine,” to which Weiss credited his longtime girlfriend as being the “Sunshine” in his life.

Weiss then shocked the audience, continuing his heartfelt message to his girlfriend saying quote “You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”

Svendsen took the stage where she happily accepted the proposal with all of the Academy as her witness.  Weiss presented Svendsen the ring his father proposed to his mother with over 60 years ago.  The crowd went wild as the happy couple exited the stage following what is now one of the most iconic Emmy moments in history.
