Jurnee Smollett-Bell + Mary Elizabeth Winstead Join Cast of ‘Birds of Prey’
The actresses Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have been announced to join Margot Robbie in Warner Bros.’ film adaptation of DC Comics’ Birds of Prey as Black Canary and Huntress respectively.
Smollett-Bell was more recently seen in the WGN series Underground, which ran for two seasons from 2016 to 2017. She could also be recognized in other television series such as On Our Own, True Blood, and Friday Night Lights. Winstead had most recently been featured in the film All About Nina which had just been released. Winstead could also be recognized for her previous film and television work from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to 10 Cloverfield Lane to the FX television series Fargo.

Warner Bros. was previously testing various actresses for the roles of Black Canary and Huntress. For Black Canary, Gugu Mbatha-Raw was also tested to play the role. Mbatha-Raw was most known for her work in films such as Belle as the titular character Dido Elizabeth Belle and the 2017 Disney live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. For Huntress, actresses Margaret Qualley and Cristin Milioti were also considered to play the role.

Birds of Prey is scheduled to be released on February 7th, 2020.
