The Avril Lavigne Foundation Raises Awareness for Lyme Disease
The Canadian singer’s personal battle with the disease inspired her to help others.Avril Lavigne was one of the brightest young stars of the early 2000s (“Sk8er boi,” anyone?). After a five-year hiatus from releasing music, the singer revealed her break from the spotlight was caused largely by her battle with Lyme disease.
Inspired by her personal struggles, the artist started the Avril Lavigne Foundation, an organization aimed at helping children with disabilities and serious illnesses.

Lavigne’s most recent campaign for the organization was a t-shirt sale featuring artwork from her single, “Head Above Water.” All proceeds from the shirts were donated towards Lyme disease research and prevention.

Avril Lavigne is doing a commendable job spreading awareness about a disease that isn’t always in the public eye. The efforts of the star’s foundation are already making a difference in the lives of children.
