Janelle Monáe to be Honored as 2018 Trailblazer at ‘Billboard’s ’13th annual Women in Music’ Event

The ‘Make Me Feel’ singer is going to be honored as Billboard’s 2018 Trailblazer at the Women in Music event.

Today, Billboard announced on their social media accounts that they were honoring Janelle Monáe with the trailblazer award on December 6.

The trailblazer award honors women in music that use their platform to break the unimaginable through art. Earlier this year the “I like That” singer released Dirty Computer her third studio album. Dirty Computer was highly acclaimed and peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard 200. It received a high score of 87 from Metacritic.

Billboard’s editorial director Jason Lipshutz praised Janelle as a unique artist that has made her stance in the music industry.

This award is well deserving because Janelle Monáe is the embodiment of art. She has represented and redefined black women in pop culture. Janelle is not afraid to go outside of her comfort zone and take risks. She also used her art to talk more openly about her sexuality. The singer revealed to RollingStone that she was Pansexual.
