Chanel Will No Longer Use Animal Fur or Skins
The global luxury brand has ended the use of exotic animal furs and skins in their brand.
Chanel has joined the growing group of fashion labels that have banned the use of animal furs and skins in their merchandise. They stand alongside Versace, Burberry, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Gucci, Gap, and others. Growing technology has given these labels a wide variety of alternatives.
Faux fur is becoming a more popular material used for winter wear, as seen in a new Nike collection. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), recently shared information about various plant-based materials that are now being used by other labels. Apples, Pineapples, Mulberry tree leaves, and mushrooms are a few examples used to make leather for shoes, handbags and other accessories.
Among others, Chanel is choosing the ethical and sustainable path towards fashion innovation.
Meanwhile, they prepare for their upcoming show, ‘Métiers d’Art 2018/19’ happening at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
