Check Out Janelle Monáe’s Stand Alone Video for ‘Crazy Classic Life’
Grammy award-nominated singer-songwriter, producer, and activist Janelle Monáe has released the stand-alone video for the track “Crazy Classic Life.”
“Crazy Classic Life” was notably shared with the world as a celebration for the accomplishments of her third critically-acclaimed album, Dirty Computer, in 2018. Dirty Computer was nominated for Album of the Year, along with Best Music Video for “PYNK.” The album landed on the year-end album list for NPR, Associated Press, Refinery 29, New York Times, and many more. To end an electric year, Monáe shares a message with her fans:
“I’m so very thankful for so many things. So very thankful for all of you that have helped the Dirty Computer album become a movement of love around the world. In this spirit of thankfulness, I’ve decided to share one of my favorite things from this year with you: the standalone visuals for “Crazy Classic Life” from the Dirty Computer emotion picture. This video was so incredibly fun to make because director Alan Janes and Zen (played by Tessa Thompson) and Che off in the future, dancing while changing the world. This one is for all the dirty computers out there! Never forget, “We are not America’s nightmare, we are the American dream.”

Dirty Computer tells the story of Jane 57821 (portrayed by Monáe) who is living in a dictatorial near-future society where citizens are referred to as “computers.” The film includes Afro-futuristic science fiction concepts and features many celebrities, including Tessa Thompson. It depicts humanity and what happens when life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness merged with mind, machines, and the government. The picture film was aired exclusively on MTV and BET channels including, MTV, MTV2, MTV Live, mtvU, BET, BET Jams, BET Soul, and BET. It was also produced by Monáe and directed by Andrew Donoho and Chuck Lightning. Alan Ferguson, Emma Westenberg, and Lacey Duke, respectfully came together to collaborate and direct powerful music videos for “Make Me Feel,” “PYNK,” and “I Like That.”
