Listen to Rami Malek’s Heart-Warming Acceptance into the Academy
Freddie Mercury’s spirit lived through Rami Malek last night as the actor accepted the Academy Award for Best Actor.
On behalf of winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as legendary Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami Malek delivered one of the most heartfelt speeches of the evening. Not only did Rami Malek bring tears to the eyes of his mother and the Oscars attendees, he also gave a warm embrace to the differences that unite the spirit of humankind.
Overcome with emotion, Malek took to the stage in stride and mentioned his mother and family right off the bat, adding “my dad didn’t get to see me do any of this, but I think he’s looking down right now”. Rami also reached a hand out to each and every person who may be wrestling with their identity: “to anyone struggling with theirs and trying to discover their voice, listen: we made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life just unapologetically himself. The fact that I’m celebrating him (Freddie Mercury) and this story with you tonight is proof that we’re longing for stories like this. I am the son of immigrants from Egypt. I am a first generation American.”

Also, we can assure you that you weren’t the only one who was shocked at the gal Malek brought along to the Oscars… That’s right! It was his Bohemian Rhapsody co-star, Lucy Boynton! Don’t you love it when a pair like that who played lovers end up together? We do too!
Congratulations to Rami Malek, the entire cast of Bohemian Rhapsody, and always to the legendary Queen for reminding us all to live unapologetically and to be the misfits that we all are.
